Today the majority of mink and foxes are bred on farms. Chinchillas and sheep (e.g. karakul or 'persian' lamb) are also commonly farmed for their quality fur.
Animals which are bred and raised on farms for their fur also produce organic fertilizers, fine oils and other products - there is very little that is wasted or that goes unused.
Animals that are farmed are well provided for including excellent nutrition all of which help produce the high-quality of fur required by the marketplace.
The Farmed Fur Industry has guidelines set by Agriculture Canada in consultation with the Humane Societies and the producers. Animals raised with minimum stress are found to produce a higher-quality of fur.
After 100 years of selectively breeding foxes and mink there are a multitude of beautiful natural colours to choose from.
Fur can also be sheered, dyed and textured for many different types of fashion applications.
